We Teach; What's Your Superpower?

Well, where to begin? It’s been several days since our school closing as a result of COVID-19. It is a tumultuous time in our world, and as an organization, our hearts bleed for victims and families. Our hats tip for medical staff and professionals joining the first responder lines, risking their own lives and safety.

Crisis does two things to us as a humanity: drive us out in fear, or push us forward in courage. And perhaps there’s an in-between stage of a little bit of both. This is ok. We are certainly allowed to feel authentically what’s bubbling in our souls.

Going deeper, the world of education took an incredulous hit. In a matter of hours, teachers from across America’s terrains had to flip their classrooms, K-12!

Uh, let’s pause on that for a second. Do we realize, no better put, have you ever stuck your head into a classroom before? Do you see how many materials, resources, even down to posters strategically hung to reinforce content there is?

Metaphorically, and one by one, educators ripped their Promethean boards from their walls. They unplugged their work comp or laptop, they stuffed construction paper, packets, digital files, and learning videos in their work bags. On a dime, they folded their classrooms, like a newspaper under their arms and closed the door behind them.

Teachers were thrust into a realm and world for some, unbeknownst to them.

Instantly, kicking instincts into full gear, classes, one by one, were flipped... and are still flipping... awesome may I add.

Gooey feelings of nostalgia arresting us as educators, we miss the simple pleasures of greeting our students at the door, being available before or after school in person, and functioning in our role we were created to do-teach our kids in our classrooms.

I know.

I know how you’re feeling, perhaps what you’re thinking.

We just wanted to get on here and tell you we love you. We see you. We’re rooting for you, and we are your biggest fans.

I want you to know you are a ninja, a damn good human, and are doing the best you can under these dire circumstances.

So take care for however long we are quarantined.

Be kind to yourself.
